Ann was born and raised by a dysfunctional family. She was abused by her own family and became addicted to drugs. She finds hope by meeting warm-hearted people like a detective and a magazine journalist. She is touched by their kindness without conditions. Ann slowly opens her mind to them, but, just as she sees a glimmer of hope in her life, the cold, brutal reality of her life hits her again.
